Hope- a poem

I know that you hate the person you see in the mirror.

And I know you cry yourself to sleep at times.

I know that when your lips say you are fine, it's just a rehearsed reply.

and that sometimes your smile doesn’t reach your eyes.

But I also see the fire in you, your passion,

I see how much you care,

How you want the people around you to stop hurting

And willingly absorb their pain.

You are forgiving to a fault unless the recipient is you

You love and love until there’s none left for you.

I see you doing things that make you happy

Without a care for the world

But I also know that doubt and fear

Creep in through the cracks in the walls that you have built up

between you and the world

You keep moving forward,

But when you lay there at night with closed eyes

dreaming about the infinite starry skies,

You toss and turn, restless, thinking about how time flies.

So I stand by you,

Checking in from time to time

But even I am not a constant

As I get lost inside your mind

Sometimes my voice doesn’t reach you

It’s drowned out by fear, pain, and doubt

But please don’t give up on me

Just know in your heart that I am always around.

Did you not recognize me?

I am hope and optimism

I am the guardian of your tired soul

And I will never let you lose hope.

But, if ever there is a tomorrow when I cannot be here with you,

I want you to remember,

You are stronger than you believe, braver than you think,

and smarter than you will ever accept.

And all I ask in return is that you promise,

To find me again.

A few days ago, Jordyn and I decided that we wanted to try something that we hadn't done before. So we decided to try spoken word poetry. We wrote a poem, recorded it, and made a video.
