Hey guys,

Joy here. After my first post on this topic, a few people suggested that I write one that is more inclusive of all subjects. So in this article, I am going to briefly guide you on how to approach various different subjects from an examination point of view.

ENGLISH-

English was and will always be my favorite subject. It is quite an easy subject yet a lot of y'all don't score well as you take it for granted. There quite a few aspects of this subject, thus I shall explain it to you part by part-

1. Essay-

ISC/ICSE students have to write rather long essays for their examinations. (I am not quite sure about the other boards). Here are some tips that will help you write it more easily and quickly-

  • Read the different types of topics and analyze whether they are narrative, descriptive, etc. This will help you understand how to approach the topic you have selected. While selecting the topic keep in mind that you should have ample content to write.

  • Give yourself a time limit and a page limit. Do not exceed either. If you are attempting this question at the end, then keep enough time in hand.

  • Do not drag out the points. Keep it interesting. Do not use overly complicated words. However, do not refrain from occasionally showing off your vocabulary.

  • List down the points. This will help you create a structure for your essay.

  • For every new idea, start a new paragraph. Each side must contain at least 2 paragraphs.

2.Letters-

Read the question properly. Do not divert away from the topic. Keep it to the point if it is formal. Use the correct lingo. Study the formats properly.

3. Grammar-

This part is often taken for granted. Before your exams go through previous years' papers. Check out grammar rules and solve a few exercises.

4. Prose and poetry-

Mind-mapping is a very important aspect of scoring well in this section.

  • Know the flow of the story.

  • Make a flow chart of key events.

  • Character sketches of main characters.

  • Theme and relevance of the title.

Maths-

Mathematics is a subject disliked by many. Me being one of those. But it is a scoring subject if attempted carefully.

  • Make a formula sheet with chapter wise formulas. Even make note of all the derivative formulas. This will help you revise.

  • One of the key reason people lose marks is calculation errors, so go over your calculations before submitting your paper.

  • Do not hurry. Use the time properly.

  • Allot time for each question depending on marks.

  • Do not skip steps. You may have some marks allotted for them.

  • Make sure you write the final answer with the correct unit.

  • If you can't solve a sum then leave space for it, circle it in your question paper and get back to it later.

  • Go through the solved examples.

Economics-

Economics is a hybrid subject. It has both theory and sums. However, the most importance , in this subject, is given to the concepts.

  • Do not mug stuff up. Understand the meaning, reasons, and implications.

  •  In the examination use graphs, examples, and charts to support your answers.

  • Note down all the different concepts in a chapter. Make a note of any formulas.

  • Do not skip chapters. Give yourself the option to chose questions during the exam.

  • Go over the previous years' papers.

Accounts-

Accounts is a very straightforward subject. Like mathematics, it is formula based.

  • Understand the different types of questions that can be asked in a chapter.

  • Read the question properly. Pay attention to the details- Time period, Per year/monthly/quarterly, etc. Underline them in the question paper.

  • Select the questions carefully and smartly.

  • Go through the solved examples and previous years' papers.

  • PRACTICE.

Hope this helped! I will be uploading another article soon, where I will link the various websites that you can refer to for question papers and notes.

Until next time,

Au Revoir.
